The Sunshine Coast is a popular place to ride, from the coastal roads around Caloundra and Maroochydore to the hinterland roads through Nambour, Mapleton and beyond. But for a custom or lowered motorcycle, there are times when transporting your bike is necessary rather than riding it to its destination.
A stock commuter bike breaking down is a straightforward tow. A lowered cruiser, chopper or custom build is a different problem, because the thing that makes it look right on the road is often the same thing that makes it difficult to load without causing damage.

Minimal ground clearance means the usual loading methods can work against you.
A standard ramp angle can scrape a low front end, exhaust or custom paintwork before the bike is even fully on the truck.
A hook or chain, the way a car might be dragged, isn’t suitable for a motorcycle either.
The bike needs to stay upright and be restrained at the correct points, without putting pressure on parts that weren’t designed to take it.
A tilt tray’s low loading angle deals with the actual problem. The bike can be driven or winched onto the deck at a shallow angle rather than being pushed up a steep ramp, reducing the risk of the underside scraping as it goes on.

This matters most for custom and lowered cruisers, choppers, aftermarket lowering kits, and restored or vintage builds. These are bikes where ground clearance may have been deliberately reduced, or where original and custom parts aren’t something you want making contact with a loading ramp.
However, this isn’t only an issue for custom bikes. The situations where a motorcycle needs to be moved can be fairly ordinary:
- A bike won’t start after sitting in a garage in Buderim.
- A private sale in Noosa needs a bike collected and taken to its new owner.
- A custom build in Caloundra needs to get to a specialist workshop.
The motorcycle may be perfectly fine once it’s loaded, but getting it onto the truck without scraping or putting pressure on the wrong part is the difficult bit.
Motorcycle Transport on the Sunshine Coast
For a low or heavily modified motorcycle, the important question isn’t simply whether it can be towed. It’s whether it can be loaded, secured and transported without treating it like a standard bike.
If it can be safely loaded and restrained, it can generally be moved, regardless of how low it sits or how far from stock it’s been built.
Sunshine Coast Tilt Tray & Towing can discuss the bike, where it needs to go and any loading considerations before confirming the transport.
